The USAID Office of Inspector General (OIG) Inspections and Evaluations Division is initiating a series of reviews to identify and provide key lessons learned from our prior oversight work to inform the realignment of foreign assistance programs and functions under the Department of State. Over the years, OIG has generated a significant body of work examining a range of foreign assistance programs and operations. Our work has resulted in numerous findings and recommendations to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and efficacy of programs and operations; promote transparency and accountability for taxpayer funds; and prevent fraud, waste, and abuse. Distilling our findings and recommendations into key lessons learned will help decisionmakers better position U.S. foreign assistance in the future and avoid past mistakes.
Our initial reviews will focus on global health, humanitarian assistance, and public international organizations, and result in three reports, one for each topic. We may conduct additional reviews to examine other topics to be determined at a later date. The objective for each review is to identify key lessons from prior oversight work that are relevant to the planned realignment of USAID programming.
To answer our objective, we will rely upon the oversight products we have issued since fiscal year 2015. We may also consider relevant work published by other oversight bodies, such as the U.S. Government Accountability Office.
