INVESTIGATIVE SUMMARY: OIG Investigated a Finder's Fee Related to a USAID/Egypt Contract and Found No Improper Payment

Investigative Summary

USAID's Office of Inspector General (OIG) initiated an investigation after receiving information that a USAID awardee agreed to pay a finder's fee in connection with an Agency-funded award in Egypt valued at just over $34,000.

OIG’s investigation determined that the awardee paid less than $1,000 to a private individual who referred the contracting opportunity. However, OIG found no evidence the payment was made to a U.S. government employee, influenced the award decision, or resulted in a monetary loss for USAID. As such, this investigation was closed with no further action. For more on OIG’s investigative results, please visit https://oig.usaid.gov/our-work/investigations.

OIG reminds personnel and implementing partners to continue reporting allegations of misconduct to OIG’s Hotline, consistent with award requirements and other legal obligations.
