Manhattan U.S. Attorney Announces Settlement with Norwegian Not-For-Profit, Resolving Claims that it Provided Material Support to Iran, Hamas, and Other Prohibited Parties Under U.S. Law

Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and Ann Calvaresi Barr, Inspector General for the U.S. Agency for International Development (“USAID”), announced today the filing and settlement of a civil fraud complaint against NORWEGIAN PEOPLE’S AID (“NPA”), a non-profit, non-governmental organization headquartered in Norway, that receives funding from USAID.

Assistant Inspector General for Investigations and Senior Executive to the Front Office

Marc Meyer is a career member of the Senior Executive Service, and currently serves as the Assistant Inspector General for Investigations and the Senior Executive to the Front Office, in the Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Agency for International Development. Meyer previously served in the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General as a Special Agent and in the State Department’s Office of Inspector General as both an Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge and Special Agent-in-Charge.

Acting Deputy Inspector General, performing the duties of the Inspector General

Nicole Angarella is the Acting Deputy Inspector General for USAID. In this role, Ms. Angarella leads OIG’s oversight of USAID, Millennium Challenge Corporation, U.S. African Development Foundation, and Inter-American Foundation. Ms. Angarella also works closely with the Inspectors General of the Department of State and the Department of Defense to coordinate oversight activities under the Lead Inspector General for Overseas Contingency Operations framework.
