Manhattan U.S. Attorney Announces Settlement with Norwegian Not-For-Profit, Resolving Claims that it Provided Material Support to Iran, Hamas, and Other Prohibited Parties Under U.S. Law

Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, and Ann Calvaresi Barr, Inspector General for the U.S. Agency for International Development (“USAID”), announced today the filing and settlement of a civil fraud complaint against NORWEGIAN PEOPLE’S AID (“NPA”), a non-profit, non-governmental organization headquartered in Norway, that receives funding from USAID.

Acting Chief of Staff

Ashley Obando is the Acting Chief of Staff for USAID OIG. In this role, she leads the Office of the Chief of Staff comprised of four divisions: (1) Strategic Communications; (2) Organizational Development; (3) Process Improvement; and (4) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility (DEIA). These offices work collaboratively to support the USAID OIG mission and workforce by strategically communicating OIG’s work, providing training and development support to staff, advancing DEIA, and driving a culture of continuous improvement and data-driven decision making. 

Inspector General

Paul K. Martin was confirmed by the United States Senate as Inspector General for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on December 18, 2023.  Prior to his current role, Mr. Martin served for 14 years as Inspector General at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
